Mission Storyteller

The story
is the mission.

I help churches, schools, and nonprofits tell the stories
that move people to show up, give, and stay.

Gene Setzer, Mission Storyteller

Most organizations struggle to communicate their mission.
Not because the mission isn't powerful —
because the story hasn't been told yet.

I'm Gene Setzer. For over a decade I've partnered with mission-driven organizations to uncover the human stories behind their work — the struggle, the turning point, the transformation — and build cinematic narratives that help their communities understand, feel, and act.

I don't document events. I find what's already true about your organization and help the world see it the way you do.

"I don't just document — I convey. I find the struggle, the humanity, and the overcoming, and I build a story that moves people to act."

Church At The Well Faith Community · Washington, DC

Feeling the atmosphere
before ever walking through the door.

Church At The Well is a faith and wellness community in Washington, DC focused on restoring the mind, body, spirit, and communal spaces through intentional spiritual practice and authentic community connection.

The challenge wasn't coverage — it was atmosphere. Most church communication online feels rushed, promotional, or disconnected. They needed storytelling that reflected the rhythm of their mission, not just the schedule of their events.

We built an ongoing cinematic storytelling presence centered on worship moments, testimony and reflection, wellness practices, and community gathering — prioritizing intimacy, warmth, and authenticity over polished performance. The result: a growing library of mission-centered content that helps viewers feel the community before they ever attend in person.

Grace Episcopal Day School Independent School · Episcopal Education

Helping families feel
the school before they visit.

Grace Episcopal Day School needed visual storytelling that reflected the warmth, care, and intentionality of its educational environment. Like many schools, the institution's strongest value existed in everyday moments — student interaction, classroom engagement, faculty relationships, and community culture — but those moments were difficult to communicate through traditional school marketing alone.

Reel Geneous Media focused on natural interaction and documentary-style visuals — capturing student curiosity, faculty relationships, and the quiet moments of learning that define the school's culture. The goal was to help families experience the atmosphere of the school before ever stepping on campus.

The project gave Grace Episcopal Day School a more emotionally resonant and visually cohesive storytelling presence — story-driven media that better reflected the care and educational experience families could expect from the community.
